This session will highlight the ethical and scientific concerns surrounding the use of animals in human nutrition research, emphasizing the harm animals endure and the limitations of these studies in producing reliable human health outcomes.

Participants are expected to watch the video, reflect on its content, and complete the CEU self-assessment and CEU evaluation. Only upon completing this process will a participant's continuing education certificate be generated. The estimated time a learner will need to complete this self-study activity is 45 minutes. 

This activity is approved for continuing education for physicians, nurses, and dietitians.

Objectives: 

  • Examine the implications of using animals in human nutrition research, focusing on scientific validity and ethical concerns.
  • Discuss alternative human-specific approaches, including clinical studies and new approach methods, that improve clinical relevance while adhering to ethical standards.
  • Advocate for policy changes that prioritize ethical and human-specific research funding. 

Requirements for successful completion: Participants will be awarded contact hours commensurate with participation after completion of the post-test with a score of 70% or higher.
