Investigate the data supporting plant-based diets for diabetes management and why tight glycemic control achieved with medication alone might not be beneficial for some patients.

Objectives:

  • Describe the evidence supporting plant-based dietary patterns for diabetes prevention and treatment.
  • Explain why tight glycemic control achieved solely with medication might not be beneficial for some patients.   
  • Discuss mechanisms for improving insulin resistance and beta cell function with plant-based nutrition.

Requirements for successful completion: Participants will be awarded contact hours commensurate with participation after completion of the post-test with a score of 70% or higher.
